A record number of MAHS students have qualified to perofm ion the 2024 District Band Festival.

Six talented MAHS musicians have earned the distinction of being selected to perform in the 2024 District Band festival planned for January 10 through 12 at Greater Johnstown High School.

This impressive group includes Hope Canfield, alto saxophone; Destinne Manuel, tuba; Kyle Petroski, bassoon; Amber Long, trumpet; Laurel Daniels, trumpet; and Ryan Sechler, euphonium.

Students qualified for the festival through a live audition process held at Northern Cambria High School on Sunday, November 19.

According to Katie Howard, director of bands, this is an unusually high number of musicians to qualify for this honor and is reflective of the dedication and talent she has witnessed for several years with this group of students.

“Our students worked incredibly hard to achieve this honor. We’ve not had six students qualify to represent us at District Band in the recent past and their dedication to improving their individual musicianship is impressive,” Howard explained. “I am greatly looking forward to the festival season and seeing how far this group of student musicians will go. They will audition at district band to advance to region band.”
