Towamensing Elementary student leaders spread holiday cheer
Student leaders from Towamensing Elementary School in the Palmerton Area School District helped spread holiday cheer in December by collecting a variety of items for local families. Items such as games, toys, coats and shoes were donated to the school. The school’s Leader in Me student lighthouse team helped to organize this collection and ensured that the donations went to families in the community that needed assistance. Over 200 items were collected and distributed to families. In addition to the items collected, the student lighthouse team was also able to give away gift cards that were donated by Raising the House, a community nonprofit organization that was created in memory of a beloved Towamensing Elementary School teacher who passed away.
Jodi Kocher, school counselor and student lighthouse team co-advisor said, “Working with the student lighthouse team on this project was a wonderful way for the students to put their leadership skills to good use. They really enjoyed knowing that they helped put smiles on the faces of so many people during the holiday season.”
