Students raise almost $1,000 for The Pulsera Project
Señorita Maria Broggi’s Spanish classes at Harry S. Truman High School in Bristol Township School District organized a bracelet sale and raised $980 for The Pulsera Project. Students sold the colorful, handwoven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish, during lunches for $7 each from December 12 to December 23.
“The Pulsera Project is an organization that directly supports Central American communities by engaging local artisans in fair trade,” said Broggi. “The Pulsera Project is popular across the nation, and when I was a high school student, my Spanish teacher organized the same fundraiser that I am bringing to Truman High School now. Together, we raised money and at the same time learned about culture and communities.”
The Pulsera Project employs nearly 200 artists with fair trade jobs and sells their artwork in schools in the U.S. Each bracelet is a one-of-kind work of art, and comes with a photo and signature of the artist who created it.
Proceeds from the sales are then invested in many programs that support the artists, their communities and other organizations focused on enacting social change in Central America.
