Amber Long and Kyle Petroski attend Region III Band Festival

Two Meyersdale Area High School musicians were selected to perform at the PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) Region III Band Festival – Kyle Petroski and Amber Long. The festival was hosted by the Bald Eagle Area School District on February 21-23.

Long, who plays the trumpet, and Petroski, who plays the bassoon, earned their seats at this festival through a challenging audition process held at the District Band festival.

“Regions was awesome! Everyone was so nice, and it made the festival ten times better. The conductor was really nice and great to work with,” explained Long. “The music was very hard, but the long rehearsals were worth it. Everyone in my family said that they loved it. I definitely had a great time!”

Petroski said it was an honor to perform at the Region III Band Festival.

“My experience was amazing, and it was an amazing honor to go on an instrument that I love, bassoon.”

In addition to The Star Spangled Banner and the Salute to the PMEA, students performed the following selections for the concert held at the conclusion of the festival: “Arabesque,” by Samuel R. Hazo; “Easter Monday on the White House Lawn,” arranged by Harold R. Gore; “El Cumbanchero,” arranged by Naohiro Iwai; “Raise of the Son,” Rossano Galente; “Safely Rest,” Nicole Piunno; and “Urban Light,” James M. David.
