State government experience prepares students for civic engagement

According to a post on the Galeton Area School District’s official Facebook page, a group of Galeton Area High School students recently participated in the Senator for a Day event at Lock Haven University, where they gained valuable insight into the legislative process and civic engagement.

During the event, students took part in mock legislative sessions led by state Senator Chris Dush and members of his staff. Through hands-on activities, they experienced how laws and public policies are discussed, debated and voted on, providing a real-world look at the work of elected officials and the role citizens play in government.

The experience allowed students to strengthen critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills while gaining a deeper understanding of how decisions that impact communities are made. Opportunities like Senator for a Day help students connect classroom learning with practical civic engagement and encourage informed participation in democracy.
