Seneca Valley Biology Club Dominates at Envirothon
Recently, the Seneca Valley Biology Club tied for first and also won second and third place at the Butler County Envirothon that was held on April 25.
The first-place team will be attending the state level competition in Mifflinburg, PA on May 24. Team members include seniors Gretchen Kellar, Cecilia Matusiak, Marie Fouche and Lainy Nickles.
Second place team members include senior Mia Stohon and juniors Abby Bonno, Katelyn Daschbach and Zoe Schultz. Third place members include sophomore Cassidy Stopchick and juniors Abigail Leslie, Grace Martin and Jonas Meiers.
The Envirothon is the largest high school level environmental education competition in North America. In this event, students prepare and compete in topics related to wildlife, aquatic ecology, forestry, soils, land use and current environmental issues. The competition is managed by our state agencies, including the Game Commission, Fish and Boat Commission, PA Department of Agriculture and Conservation of Natural Resources.
Hundreds of teachers and professionals throughout Pennsylvania guide high school students through this natural resource environmental education program that combines classroom learning and outdoor activities.
