Ryan Gloyer Middle School to begin new service program, Community Grown
In an effort to strengthen connections with each of the nine communities within the Seneca Valley School District, Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) hosted Community Grown, a school-wide community service project initiative that allowed students to give back to the communities that have given so much for their education. Seventh and eighth grade students volunteered at various townships and municipalities, with the first being Jackson Township.
Municipal leaders worked with the RGMS administration to identify needs in their community. Once a need was determined, RGMS staff members and administrators worked with each of their 10 teams to plan a solution that would include community service. Since RGMS has a total of 10 teams, Cranberry Township had two teams working on projects.
Students serving Jackson Township during Community Grown began their day meeting with township officials at the Jackson Township Municipal building. Students were then broken up into groups to work on a variety of service projects at the municipal building and for the Jackson Township Police Department and the Jackson Township Parks and Recreation department.
Some of the service projects included planting trees and shrubs, mulching, washing police vehicles, building signs, weeding, developing surveys, and installing benches and bike racks. Students wrapped up their day with team building activities and lunch at Jackson Township’s Reservoir Park.

- Harmony Borough – Harmony Museum and Harmony EMS
- Zelienople Borough – Zelienople Community Park, Glade Run Lutheran Services
- Callery Borough – baseball field
- Seven Fields – Seven Fields Park
- Forward Township – Forward Township Municipal Building
- Evans City – EDCO Park
- Lancaster Township – Bauder Park
