Meyersdale Area SD holds Walk-A-Thon

The 2026 Red Raider Walk-a-Thon is just around the corner and our Meyersdale Area Elementary students are “toe-tally” excited to support this annual cause! The Walk-a-Thon will be held Friday, September 26th

MAES students will once again be holding their annual Walk-a-Thon.

MAES Red Raiders have been participating in the Walk-a-Thon each year since 2018 and this initiative has raised thousands of dollars to benefit the students and their classrooms.

Sponsored by the Meyersdale Area Elementary Educational Boosters, this annual event has raised nearly $70,000 since its inception. The 2025 Walk-a-Thon raised more than $5,000 for special requests and programs. Organizers are hopeful this year’s event will exceed that total!

The Red Raider Walk-a-Thon is the only fundraiser held by the Meyersdale Area Educational Boosters and provides every student an opportunity to participate.

Funds raised through the Walk-a-Thon are used to supplement the programming offered to our MAES students, including: the End of the School Year Celebration; playground materials and equipment; additional funding for field trips; special events throughout the school years; classroom projects and materials; the annual Talent Show; and special requests.

Christa Wiltrout, President of the Meyersdale Area Elementary Educational Boosters, said the MAES Walk-a-Thon is a celebration of Red Raider Pride. The excitement of the day is felt throughout the building and students, staff and faculty enjoy the opportunity to come together to support a common cause.

Wiltrout said the continued support for this event is deeply appreciated and is critical to offering our students with unique and valuable educational experiences.

Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will be seeking sponsors for their efforts, as well as flat donations. Students in kindergarten and first grade will have 30 minutes to walk as many half-laps as they can. Older students, those in second through fifth grade, will have one hour to complete as many full laps as they are capable. Following the Walk-a-Thon, each student will be given a tally of the laps they have completed.

Members of the National Honor Society will be assisting during the event, helping to count laps and encourage the kiddos, and then will make snow cones for the students at the end of the festivities.
