Hitting all the right notes
Recently, 16 Seneca Valley chorus students in grades 10-12 hit all the right notes as they participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region Chorus event that was held at Mars High School.
The Region Chorus Festival had student representatives from Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Lawrence, Mercer, Washington and Westmoreland counties. This year, Seneca Valley had more students advance to state than any other school in the region! Based on audition results at the festival, the following students will be advancing to the All-State Choir Festival in April: Ayla Alexander, Giulia Siegfried and Graham Logue.
Music was selected by Dr. Hannah Carr, originally from Ireland, and included selections written in Latin, Norwegian and Gaelic in addition to English pieces. Dr. Carr, of Kutztown University, directed students and encouraged them to expand their social, emotional and musical horizons through collaboration in singing, discussion and even Irish dancing.
“This was a talented and special regional choir group who performed an incredibly energetic and impressive concert,” said Ms. Bobi-Jean Alexander, high school choir director.
All participating chorus participants included Ayla Alexander, Annika Batavia, Connor Benson, Josh Cantella, Nathan Capizzi, Ella Gemperlein, Isaac Hixon, Graham Logue, Jacob Maietta, Katie McAdoo, Natalie Palmer, John Rieger, Giulia Siegfried, Madeleine Tomo, Madelyn Tresky and Emma Zelesnak.
