Deer Lakes elementary students welcome, honor nearly 100 veterans
In what has become an annual tradition, Deer Lakes School District elementary students welcomed and honored nearly 100 veterans just days before Veterans Day.
Curtisville Primary Center students entertained about 70 veterans with a 30-minute concert and classroom activities. Veterans also enjoyed breakfast with students and many also talked about their service to our country in each classroom.
East Union Elementary students began preparing in October for their Veterans Day celebration by placing hundreds of American flags in front of the school and decorating the hallways with Veterans Day-themed projects. Fifth-grade students personally invited about 30 veterans to enjoy a 20-minute concert, fill care packages with donated items needed by the men and women in the Butler VA Hospital, and to do an honor walk throughout the building as students and staff cheered, sang patriotic songs, and thanked veterans for their service.
