Carmichaels students take flight during Aviation Camp

Students in the Carmichaels Area School District participated in a two-day Aviation Camp that concluded with a memorable visit to the Greene County Airport.
According to a post shared on the Carmichaels Area School District Facebook page, campers spent the program exploring a variety of aviation-related experiences, including flight simulators, helicopter tours, hands-on learning opportunities and career exploration activities. The camp culminated in Young Eagles flights, giving students the chance to take to the skies and experience flight firsthand.
The event was made possible through the support of Greene County Airport, SOAR of Greene County and numerous aviation professionals who shared their expertise with students. Campers learned about careers in aviation, law enforcement, healthcare, aircraft maintenance and military service from pilots, mechanics, instructors and other industry professionals.
A special highlight of the camp was the opportunity for students to interact with experienced aviation leaders, including retired U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot Colonel Mike Belding, along with pilots, instructors and Civil Air Patrol representatives who helped introduce students to the many pathways available within the aviation field.
The district also recognized Alex Toth, Anthony Post and Daniel Poland for their assistance throughout the event. Alex and Anthony further contributed by presenting to campers and serving as positive role models for younger students.
By connecting students with real-world experiences and professionals, Aviation Camp helped spark curiosity, expand career awareness and inspire the next generation of aviators and innovators. Programs like this demonstrate how Pennsylvania public schools and community partners work together to provide meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
