Asbury Elementary celebrated Fat Bear Week with their Life Skills students – who chose a favorite bear and voted for them as part of a national competition. They learned about the bears of Alaska, habitats, hibernation, salmon, etc., while monitoring the competition and which bears were in the lead. The students kept track of the competition with a bear bracket and fact sheets in the hallway for the whole school to enjoy. While the class’s original first choice, named Marshmallow, was voted out early in the competition. However, their second choice, named Backpack, was named the winner at the end of the week, which created a lot of excitement for the students.
