Beyond the Textbook: Pleasant Valley HS Students Step into the “Operating Room”

On March 25, students enrolled in Anatomy & Physiology and AP Biology at Pleasant Valley High School participated in a premier educational clinical hosted by St. Luke’s Orthopedic Center. In a first-of-its-kind event for the Monroe County area, students observed a dissection of a human knee directed by St. Luke’s orthopedic surgeons.

The intensive session provided a deep dive into gross anatomy and the mechanics of the human joint. Students observed the technical nuances of ACL and meniscus repairs while learning to navigate professional arthroscopic equipment. This successful collaboration between local education and health care leaders provided students with an invaluable, real-world perspective on surgical medicine and career paths in orthopedics.
