Seneca Valley raises over $22,500 for heart health

Ehrman Crest Elementary School (ECE) kicked off the Kids Heart Challenge last month to raise funds for the American Heart Association (AHA) and support children with “special hearts.”
Kennedy, who was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve at just 2 years old, and Penny, a second grader who underwent open-heart surgery in November, haven’t let their conditions hold them back. Instead, they’ve become passionate advocates for the Kids Heart Challenge and have turned their personal experiences into an opportunity to educate and inspire others.
ECE launched their fundraiser with presentations and special activities. Staff, community members, administrators and family members all helped spread the important message of heart health.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of the entire school community, Ehrman Crest surpassed their goal and raised over $22,800 for the AHA! Shoutout to Kennedy for raising over $2,100 and earning the spot as top fundraiser! These funds will go toward helping fund research and resources for children with heart conditions.
“The fundraiser is very close to my heart,” said Ehrman Crest Health and Physical Education teacher Ms. Sara Coon. “Teaching students about heart health at a young age means a lot.”
The Kids Heart Challenge, a nationwide initiative by the AHA, promotes heart-healthy habits while empowering students to make a difference. Through education and fundraising, participants support life-saving efforts and learn the importance of cardiovascular health.
Kennedy and Penny’s courage and efforts are a powerful reminder that even the youngest advocates can make a lasting impact.
