Soroptimists honor MAHS student
Soroptimist International of Somerset County, Inc. recently recognized Miss Jaylynn Anderson for her dedication and commitment to her community through her many volunteer activities. Student honorees are recommended by their school’s guidance counselors.
She has volunteered for the past two years as a Junior Firefighter with the Meyersdale Fire Department. Her activities with the fire department include helping at the Sunday Dinner, cleanup days, fundraising and working at the fire department stand at the Somerset County Fair. Jaylynn has also volunteered at the Sugar Shack at the Maple Festival as well as working with the Lion’s Club and the Elk’s Club on various projects.
She is a member of the MAHS Musical cast, Red Raider Rifle team, Prom Committee and Student Council. She also serves as secretary of the SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and Envirothon. In her free time, Jaylynn enjoys spending time with family and working at Albright’s Pizza. Following high school, Jaylynn plans to attend college to pursue a career in nursing.
Jaylynn said she has been volunteering since she was very young and considers it to be her passion. However, she said she does not volunteer for the credit or attention, she volunteers to help others and make a difference in her community.
The mission of the Soroptimists of Somerset County is to improve the lives of women and girls throughout the community.
