The Seneca Valley Instrumental Music program has a long-standing tradition of excellence at the Pennsylvania Music Education Association (PMEA) Festivals and this past month was certainly representative of that success.

Late last month, nine SV Band students were selected to participate in the PMEA Region 1 Band Festival that was held at Butler Intermediate High School from March 23-25. Region Band comprises a select group of students who have advanced through audition to the regional level of the state festival process.

A highlight of the concert was the performance of “Come Sunday” by Omar Thomas. This selection won the 2019 National Band Association Revelli Composition Contest.

Students selected included Leanne Abel – trombone, Paityn Armstrong – clarinet, Nicole Brown – bass clarinet, Peter Ko – alto sax, Colton Marley – trumpet, Camyn Meanor – french horn, Bridget Scott – trombone, Mackenzie Tunstall – clarinet, and Raymond Walter – trumpet.

Region 1 comprises eight counties from three PMEA district-level bands. Christopher M. Cicconi, Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Towson University, conducted the festival. The Seneca Valley Band Directors at the secondary level include Varden Armstrong, Robert Babick, Brian Croach and Sara Snyder.
