A Celebration of Strings

On Thursday, March 9, six students from Seneca Valley participated in the Western Region Orchestra concert held in State College, PA. Due to inclement weather, the festival was moved from a three-day festival to a two-day festival with an impromptu performance. Despite a difficult situation, students rose to the occasion and performed a concert under the direction of Conductor Douglas Droste. Mr. Droste, a conductor at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, led students in the preparation of Peer Gynt Suite, Elegy op. 58, and movement four of Scheherazade.

Orchestra director Sarah Miller said, “In spite of the hectic situation, students performed beautifully. It was fun to see them act with such maturity with a rapidly changing schedule and perform in their street clothes!”

Participants included Tristan Conrad – cello, Charlotte Davis – violin, Gretchen Kellar – violin, Isabella Muthler – viola, Jacob Pieszak – violin, and Grace Riggle – violin.

Sophomore Isabella Muthler, a violist, will be advancing to All-State Orchestra to be held in April.
