Windber Elementary School wins prestigious Science of Reading Star Award

Windber Elementary School has been honored with the Science of Reading Star Award for 2024 in the Rookie of the Year category by Amplify! This prestigious recognition highlights an exceptional commitment to implementing evidence-based reading practices and fostering a love for literacy among our students.

The competition was fierce, with 1,500 nominations received from schools across every state in the United States. Out of these, 27 finalists were selected, and we are incredibly proud to be one of the 10 award winners across all categories.

The Science of Reading Star Awards celebrate schools that demonstrate excellence in the application of the science of reading, showcasing innovative approaches and significant improvements in student literacy outcomes. Our achievement in the Rookie of the Year category underscores our dedication and hard work in embracing these best practices within a short period.

This award is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our dedicated teachers, supportive staff and engaged parents who have all played a crucial role in creating an environment where our students can thrive.
