Washington implements positive behavior program
Washington School District students are benefiting from a partnership between the district and Budd Baer Subaru. Washington Junior High received a $10,000 grant from the company through the Subaru Loves Learning and AdoptaClassroom.org program in 2019. According to an article in the Observer-Reporter, the grant helps recipient schools implement the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program, which teaches positive behavior and decision-making.
Because of the pandemic, the program’s implementation was delayed but is now moving forward in seventh and eighth grade. Students recently enjoyed a kickoff event featuring games and fun competitions where they learned about the program and received incentive for behavior in keeping with the PBIS initiative. The article states that the program is an extension of Superintendent Dr. James Konrad’s initiative to incorporate social and emotional learning into the curriculum and is meant to help students transition between junior high and high school.
