Volley for a Cure
Each year the students in the Meyersdale Area Middle and High Schools hold a volleyball tournament to benefit breast cancer awareness. This year’s events were an “ace,” raising more than $1,160 for the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center.
According to event organizer Ginger Geiger, this event has been held for three years.
“To date, we have raised more than $4,500,” Geiger explained. “This year’s student tournaments saw 12 middle school teams and nine teams from the high school.”
In addition to the student tournaments, Geiger, with the help of Athletic Director Craig Gindlesperger, also organizes a faculty tournament and a basket raffle. The faculty tournament will include teams from Rockwood, Salisbury, Conemaugh Township and Meyersdale.
Faculty and staff also participated in a dress-down day to raise funds for the Murtha Breast Care Center.
The winning team for the middle school included the following players: Colt Snyder, Ryder Reese, Lilly Teets, Isabelle Emerick, Lylah Steyer and Mr. Cody Stewart. The winning team from the high school included the following players: Landon Ludy, Nick Kimble, Carter Vogt, Sarah Hainsworth, Isabella Sleasman and Jessica Daughton.
