Mimi Swavey reads her newly published children’s book, “Just Act Extraordinary,” to her first grade class at Tracy Elementary.

First grade teacher, Mimi Swavey, recently authored and published a children’s book called Just Act Extraordinary. The book was inspired by one of Swavey’s former students who passed from cancer in 2014. When Jax Stone entered Swavey’s first grade class, he left a resounding impression on his teacher and classmates alike. He was known for being an exceptional example of how to be kind to others and showed up for people around him in ways big and small. Swavey’s book details some of those ways to show up for others with Jax as the main character teaching the lessons throughout the story. Her goal is to help teach students that greatness begins with kindness and good choices. Her current class has fallen in love with the book and when read during story time, the entire group joins in saying the last line, “why be ordinary, when you can be extraordinary!”
