Students wave to their classroom camera as they virtually meet author Camille Licate and her rooster Bree.

Tracy Elementary found a children’s book that resonated with students and staff so much this year, it became the theme for their World Kindness Day Celebration and other programming. After reaching out to the author to share how the book impacted their school, she offered to virtually meet with the students.

Camille Licate and Bree the rooster, who are the star characters of the book Bree & Me, shared photos and videos of Bree as he grew from chick to rooster and answered questions from the students about Bree and their story. The book encourages kids to “Bree” kind to themselves, others, animals and the planet.

This story really struck a chord with the Tracy Elementary Staff, reminding them of a beloved late colleague affectionately known as Bre, who was famous for her deep love and care for both her students and her pet chickens. Bree & Me has become an important part of Tracy’s PBIS and Cool to be Kind programs, and the students were absolutely thrilled for their virtual meet & greet.
