Towamensing student leaders give back to their community
Towamensing Elementary School’s Leader in Me Student Lighthouse Team had the opportunity to put their leadership skills into action this week. They took a trip to Palmerton and started their day with a park clean-up. Then the public library graciously hosted the students for an hour, and the kids completed a scavenger hunt. The team ended the day by going to the Palmerton assisted living facility and making bird feeders with the residents.
Mrs. Lisa Ward, Towamensing teacher, said, “Our student leaders had a fabulous time with the residents, and the residents were overjoyed to talk with the kids and do the craft. It was a great day of serving others and learning to work together as a team. At first the students were shy but with time and talking, they had great conversations. Some of the residents showed our kids’ pictures of their families and asked them questions.”
