Nationally known and recognized, Seneca Valley Performing Arts ensembles continued to receive top rankings at conferences and festivals. Nine Seneca Valley Band students were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Region Band Festival that was held at Deer Lakes High School, February 22-24.

Based on audition results, seniors Paityn Armstrong and Kami Topf, and junior Mackenzie Tunstall will be advancing to the All-State Festival to be held in April in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Region Band is a select group of students who have advanced through audition to the regional level of the state festival process. Region 1 comprises eight counties from three PMEA district level bands. Students are led by Mr. Varden Armstrong, Mr. Robert Babick, Mr. Brian Croach and Ms. Sara Snyder, secondary instrumental instructors.

Participants included Paityn Armstrong – clarinet, Noah Bracht – tuba, Isaac Hixon – French horn, Katie Mack – oboe, Camyn Meanor – French horn, Bridget Scott – trombone, Kami Topf – trumpet, Mackenzie Tunstall – clarinet, and Adrian Wrubel – trumpet.

The guest conductor for the festival was Dr. Patrica Cornett, Director of Bands at Temple University. The band performed an outstanding concert of challenging music alongside the top student musicians from Western Pennsylvania.
