TJHS students celebrate Black History Month with visit from state president of NAACP

TJHS welcomed Ken Houston, State President of the NAACP, to speak to students in honor of Black History Month about the mission and background of the NAACP, the role of the State President as well as his own life experiences.

The NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization in the country and is dedicated to protecting the civil and human rights of all people. According to Mr. Houston, “We must always remember to celebrate each other and our cultural differences. This is what makes us truly unique.”

He encouraged students to be respectful and engage in thoughtful discussions regarding cultural differences, and to strive to be the solution to any issues that they may encounter.

At the end of his presentation, Mr. Houston took the time to answer questions, challenged students to be positive leaders in the school and serve others to make the community and the world a better place.
