Tech Ed Club builds tables for community park

Members of the MAHS Tech Ed Club recently completed a special project for the community park in Meyersdale.

The lessons taught to our students extend far beyond math equations and history facts. A secondary, but no less important, goal is to instill a sense of civic pride and responsibility in each of our students.

The civic pride of a group of Tech Ed Club members will be on display in the community and for years to come. Members spent several weeks designing and building six 8-foot picnic tables that will be placed at the local park. The project was managed and organized by Tech Ed teacher Doug Horne.

The project is another example of partnership between the school district and the community and was completed at the request of Meyersdale Borough Councilmember Karen Gnagey.

“Karen Gnagey approached me about building the tables by the beginning of May and I thought we could pull that off so we moved forward with the project. My senior and junior students helped with the project,” Horne explained.

The dedicated team of students included: Trey Bolyard, Chris Engle, Joel Molnar, Lucas Brown, Aidan Mosholder, Brennan Schardt, Easton Kalp, Cooper Porter, Caleb Snyder, Caden Snyder, Gianni Browne, Landon Ludy, Nolan Lowery and Chris Dipasquale.

“This project gives them a sense of ownership and pride in their work as well as their community. The Borough will be placing the tables out for use very soon,” Horne added.

Gnagey said the Borough received a donation for updates/improvements to the pavilion at the Paul Fuller Playground. She then contacted Horne to see if his students could build the table and a plan was made to have six tables built. Horne’s students have partnered with the Borough in the past on similar projects with great success.

“Council chose to replace six heavily weathered tables in an effort to make the facility nicer for the Farmer’s Market and all the reunions and parties held in the pavilion throughout the year,” Gnagey explained. “Meyersdale Borough Council really appreciates the partnership they have with the school on projects like this. Thank you to Doug and his students for all they do for our community.”
