Students win regional IAC awards
Two Dorseyville Middle School students won awards at the International Academic Competitions (IAC) Southern Pennsylvania Regional Finals.
History Bee
Dorseyville Middle School eighth-grader Jonah Driver placed first in the regional eighth-grade History Bee competition, and seventh-grader Thomas Pohl was named the first-place winner in the regional seventh-grade contest. Both students qualified for the IAC National History Bee and the IAC International History Olympiad. The IAC National History Bee championships were held May 23-27 in Orlando, Florida, and the International History Olympiad will be held in London, England, in July 2025.
Science Bee
Jonah also won first place in the eighth-grade regional Science Bee. He then qualified for the IAC National Science Bee and the International Environmental Science Olympiad. The IAC National Science Bee championships were held May 23-27 in Orlando, Florida, and the International Environmental Science Olympiad will be held in Puerto Rico in December 2024.
The regional IAC competitions were held March 16, 2024, at Somerset Area Junior-Senior High School. All of the students qualified for the regional finals by earning high marks on the Online Regional Qualifying Exam.
International Academic Competitions is an organization dedicated to giving students around the world the chance to compete in engaging, challenging and exciting tournaments that are focused on history, geography, science and other academic disciplines.
