Students, staff bake thousands of holiday cookies to express appreciation of community senior citizens
The Baldwin-Whitehall School District hosted its seventh-annual Holiday Cookie Extravaganza for Senior Citizens on Friday, December 13. This wonderful event brings together members of the community across generations for some delicious, holiday fun! Some of the cookies are baked by Baldwin High School students in Beth Fochtman’s Family Consumer Science class at Baldwin High School. Many more cookies will be made by teachers, district administration and support professionals.
Each year seniors love visiting the school where they are able to meet students, enjoy holiday music performances and, of course, take home fresh, home-baked holiday cookies. This was a wonderful chance for members of the community who don’t always cross paths to come together and celebrate the season of giving.
The district embrace of this event has been literally phenomenal, with dozens of bakers lined up to bake homemade cookies for senior citizens, who get to take home a box full of holiday cookies…all free.
Superintendent Dr. Randal A. Lutz expressed why the annual holiday event for senior citizens who reside in the neighborhoods it serves is so special. It enables us to express gratitude for our community older adults and their sustained support of district operations and it helps us to deepen relationships and expand opportunities for senior citizens to visit our schools and become active participants.
