Students showcase projects at Anne Frank Gallery Walk

Sixth grade students from Haine Middle School recently showcased their projects at an Anne Frank Gallery Walk, which highlighted thematic and collaborative efforts from their studies on the Holocaust, including Anne Frank, World War II and novels about refugees.

The event offered an in-depth look of Anne Frank through the facets of the students’ 21st century learning skills. Two sessions were held for parents and guests, followed by teachers and students.

Haine middle school students have been immersed in a cross-curricular study of the Holocaust, World War II and refugees from other nations. Students have read a wide variety of self-selected historical fiction novels based on the Holocaust, participated in a Zoom meeting and virtual tour of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, crafted 3-D scaled models of the Anne Frank House and much more.

Another component of this thematic unit featured a community service project. The team of students, in conjunction with Jewish Family and Community Services, collected much needed personal items. The 2021-22 school year marked the inaugural organization of the event. This year is the second time the community service component has been included to further help students foster empathy.
