Four Meyersdale Middle School students were selected to perform in a youth choir for the 25th Anniversary Observance of 9/11 at the Flight 93 National Memorial.

The 25th anniversary of 9/11 at the Flight 93 National Memorial featured tributes, speakers and special music with an overall theme of “The Next Generation.” The special music featured a performance by a Youth Choir that consisted of student musicians from throughout “America’s County,” including our very own Gemma Parisi, Harper Berkley, Zoe Berkley and Gibson Hoover!

These talented sixth grade students joined students from Conemaugh Township, North Star, Shanksville-Stonycreek, Somerset and Turkeyfoot Valley, to honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93, during the afternoon program. The Youth Choir performed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “My America” and “From Sea to Shining Sea.”

Speakers during the program included Governor Josh Shapiro; Paul Murdoch, architect of the Flight 93 National Memorial; Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum; Stephen Clark, superintendent for the Flight 93 National Memorial, among several other distinguished guests.

Each of the students received a 25-years observance pin and memorabilia honoring the legacy of the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93.

Our MASD students were selected based on a singing assessment they took during Music Class in fifth grade and were also members of the Fifth Grade Chorus. They rehearsed with the other schools over the summer for three rehearsals. “The choir performed beautifully and the students were incredibly respectful. I am proud of the students who represented Meyersdale and believe this is a memory that will leave a lasting impact,” explained Rachelle Linares, MASD choral director.
