Homer-Center students placed 6th in the 2024 Capitol Hill Challenge (Stock Market Competition). Team members included David Eastman, Jaxson Arone, Kicky Todd, Noah Turk and Landon Shoup with advisor, Ms. Christine Yurky.

Team members had the chance to travel to Washington, D.C., and meet with U.S. Representative Guy Reschenthaler and learn from leaders in the financial industry at various seminars and programs. They also received a tour of the U.S. Capitol and visited other interesting sites.

For 14 weeks, teams from across the country bought and sold stocks to build their portfolios. The Homer-Center team earned a 17% return on their investments record, many winning trades along the way. The competition also taught the team how to handle underperforming stocks and investments and when to make changes. They conducted daily research and financial analysis to build their portfolio. The competition has sparked their interest in finance and investments, prompting most team members to begin a personal investment strategy as a result of this experience.
