Students participate in a local Special Olympics event

On May 21, students from Bellefonte Area School District life skills classrooms joined teachers, paraprofessionals, student volunteers and administrators at Rogers Stadium for Special Olympics. Student athletes competed in events including the standing long jump, softball throw, Frisbee throw, 25-meter walk, wheelchair race, and 25- and 50-meter runs.

Prior to 2020, Bellefonte Area students joined students from the other Centre County schools at the Special Olympics of Centre County Geri Ryan Track Meet held at the Penn State multisport complex.

Sponsors were Pizza Mia and Miller’s Tropical Sno that helped make the day special for students.
