Sixth and seventh grade band members traveled to WVU for the 2025 Creativity Academy.

Sixth and seventh grade band members enjoyed a day of music and fun at the 2025 Creativity Academy, hosted by West Virginia University on April 30, 2025.

Students attended a concert featuring the WVU Wind Ensemble. Dr. Scott C. Tobias was the conductor and the concert featured the following guest conductors: Sarah Dawson, Jeffrey Hadfield and Mallory Williams.

The performance highlighted the role music plays in storytelling and was entitled “Let’s Go – A Musical Adventure.” Students were also invited to submit artwork that was included in a slideshow that accompanied the music. The artwork of two Meyersdale Middle School students was featured during the concert – Waylon Decker and Bayne Elsea. Students were thrilled to see their work on the “big screen!”

“This trip was a great opportunity for us to observe high level musicianship and have a fun day experiencing music in a different way,” explained Katie Howard, director of Bbands. “Hopefully our time spent at WVU will motivate us to come back and continue improving our own musical skills!”
