Students honor veterans with breakfasts and ceremonies

Student Council members served hot breakfast to veterans at Keith Valley Middle School.
The High School’s annual veterans ceremony and breakfast was extra special this year because two veterans received honorary diplomas. Through the district’s Veteran Diploma Recognition Program, two veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps, Robert Edward Ehesam and the late Robert Long, received diplomas. Long’s grandson, Rick, accepted the diploma on his behalf, and Ehesam was not present. Following the ceremony, veterans placed flags in the ground by the school’s Veterans Memorial.
Keith Valley Middle School held its biggest breakfast to date with more than 230 veterans or active-duty personnel in attendance. The ceremony began with students presenting the military flags and singing the National Anthem, followed by speeches from the administration, staff, and students. After an invocation, student council members served a hot breakfast buffet to those in attendance while stories were shared.
Additionally, Blair Mill Elementary School’s Home and School Association served a hot breakfast to veterans and students. Several student groups performed songs, recited poems, and read thank-you letters to show their appreciation. Every veteran also received handmade drawings and cards from students.
