Student author gets poem published

West York Area middle school student Rowan Dennis’ poem, “Through Their Eyes of Hope,” will be published in the annual Young Writers book this January! She was encouraged by West York Area Middle School ELA teacher Ms. Jill Striebig to submit her work, and it paid off!

The poem, written from the perspective of Anne Frank, was selected out of 5,000 entries! Anne Frank is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She gained fame posthumously with the publication of her account of hiding during World War II in The Diary of a Young Girl. This March, Rowan’s poem will be entered to win a spot in the top five – with a chance for prizes and recognition for Rowan as well as the district.
