Abington Heights High School is celebrating an extraordinary student accomplishment after senior Judah Donnelly earned third place nationally in the American Legion’s prestigious National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.

According to a news story by FOX56/WOLF TV, Donnelly advanced through local, regional and state rounds before competing on the national stage, where he delivered both a prepared speech and an impromptu address focused on the U.S. Constitution. His prepared remarks examined the role and purpose of the Electoral College, while his impromptu speech — crafted in just five minutes — addressed Article VI, Section 3 of the Constitution.

His outstanding performance earned him a $20,000 scholarship, which he plans to use as he begins his studies at Hillsdale College in fall 2026. Donnelly shared that he hopes to pursue a career in constitutional law, building on the passion for civic education and public speaking that carried him to national recognition.

The American Legion’s oratorical program awards more than $200,000 in scholarships each year and is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the Constitution while strengthening their leadership and communication skills. Donnelly’s achievement highlights the dedication of Abington Heights educators and the strength of Pennsylvania’s public schools in preparing students for success on the national stage.
