On Friday, February 16, US Senator Bob Casey visited the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) Lower Bucks Early Learning Center (ELC), located on the campus of the Lower Bucks Hospital, in Bristol, PA. The Senator took a tour of the facility and the state-of-the art playground, which has handicap accessible equipment, promoting inclusiveness. Senator Casey spent time meeting with students, staff, and talking with Bucks IU School Directors John D’Angelo (President of the Bucks IU Board of School Directors, representing Bristol Borough School District), Flemming Godiksen (Centennial School District) and Jim Morgan (Bristol Township School District).

The Lower Bucks ELC opened on August 28, 2023, and provides programs that are available at no-cost to students and families who qualify, serving more than 90 Head Start and Early Head Start students from lower Bucks County. The Lower Bucks ELC also provides Pre-School Early Intervention (PEI) Services to students with developmental delays and/or learning disabilities.

The Bucks IU is the federal grant holder for Bucks County for the federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs, serving approximately 387 students throughout the county with approximately 125 on a waiting list. In addition, the Bucks IU provides pre-school early intervention services to approximately 3,300 students annually.
