Scranton STEMM Academy to provide rigorous curriculum

Scranton School District will open the doors of its new STEMM Academy this fall, according to an article in the Times-Tribune. In February, school directors approved creating the academy in the Scranton High library and adjoining space. The new area will contain modular, modern furniture and new technology to support rigorous curriculum in science, technology. engineering, math and medicine for students. Currently the program is for students in grades 7-8, but eventually it will expand to include grades 7-12, with students choosing a pathway to prepare for higher education and/or the workforce. Initially 120 students will be enrolled with five full-time teachers and two others who will be at the STEMM Academy for half the day. Teachers will receive training on the new courses and technology this summer.
