Members of the MAHS SADD spent a day volunteering at the local animal shelter.

Members of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) spent April 28 donating their time, love and attention to the many animals currently housed at the Humane Society of Somerset County.

Students spent the morning performing a variety of tasks to assist the staff and then were given the opportunity to spend time with the cats and dogs. Members also collected and delivered supplies to assist in this important mission.

“We were given direction from UPMC Twin Lakes at the Conference to choose a community service project at some point this school year. The students chose this because of their love of animals,” explained Elizabeth McClintock Chapter Advisor.

The MAHS SADD Chapter has approximately 40 members and Jaylynn Anderson serves as the president.

“Our chapter decided to go to support the Humane Society because we are all huge animal lovers, and we wanted to volunteer our time to help the cats and dogs in the shelter,” she explained. “We learned so much about the shelter itself and how it operates. We also learned about the adoption process, and how they categorize each animal by their temperament and tolerance to people. We gained such amazing memories helping the animals, and of course being able to go to the cat house and petting all of the beautiful cats!”

MAHS SADD members will be returning to the shelter in June.
