Reading around the clock
Greater Johnstown School District | Posted on
Johnstown High School (JHS) students and staff discovered the power of reading and working together during Read Across America Week by holding an ambitious event — a continuous, communal read-aloud Read-A-Thon of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel, The Hobbit, from cover to cover. In addition, a few JHS students visited the elementary school to read various selections for them, including original Black History Month poetry written by our own eighth grade students. Members of the JHS Interact Club refilled the group’s “red boxes” boxes placed around the community to provide free books to borrow in addition to nonperishable food items and cold-weather clothing such as coats and hats to those who need them.
