Read Across America Week culminates in Flashlight Friday

Read Across America, celebrated from March 3 to 7, 2025, provided an engaging and educational experience for the Rockwood Area Elementary School community. This nationally recognized annual event encouraged students to embody vocabulary words. Each student selected a word, created a design, and implemented their design with support from teachers and parents. The week was dedicated to activities centered around literacy.

A highlight of the week was Flashlight Friday, a new event that was well-received by the students. Students in grades 2 through 4 were invited to bring their favorite stuffed animals and a book to read by flashlight. Kindergarten and 1st-grade students were paired with 5th and 6th graders, fostering mentorship and friendship between older students and those at the beginning of their academic journey.
