Program introduces students to healthcare careers
Hazleton Area School District middle schoolers had a chance to learn about possible careers in the healthcare industry through a virtual program where students talked with specialized workers in the field. The students learned more about different jobs and how they work. The goal of the initiative was to introduce students to careers the may not have been aware of, that also fill a local workforce need.
According to a WNEP article, the program opened students eyes to the possibilities. At the beginning of the program, 24% of students said they knew something about careers in healthcare, however, by the end, 81% of the students said they know a lot about careers in healthcare.
Organizers are working to extend the program so that middle school students can experience it throughout their school tenure and so that other districts can use it as a model to implement elsewhere.
