Phillies Most Improved Reader
Panther Valley School District | Posted on
Jake Seitz, a second grade student at Panther Valley Elementary School, was one of five students in the PA, NJ and DE area awarded the Most Improved Reader Award by the Philadelphia Phillies. Mrs. Szczecina, Title I reading specialist, nominated him because of the outstanding progress he has made this year in his reading skills.
The school participated in the Phanatic About Reading Program presented by Xfinity. Founded in 2004, the program encourages students in grades pre-K-8 to read for a minimum of 15 minutes a day to improve their literacy skills. Teachers can nominate students for the award by submitting an essay stating why a student is the most improved reader in their classroom. Five students are chosen to receive the award each year. The winner receives four tickets for one Philadelphia Phillies 2021 regular season home game played at Citizens Bank Park and the opportunity for the award winner and nominator to be recognized at that game.
