Palmerton students explore broadcast journalism careers

New for the 2022-23 school year at Palmerton Area Senior High School is the Digital Media Productions class. There are currently 15 students in the class, and the primary focus is writing, creating and producing the daily announcements as well as video editing and graphic design. When in the district’s TV studio, the student roles are two news anchors, a script editor, a media producer, and a director. In addition to creating a visually appealing morning news show for the high school, the class also encourages the students to explore various careers within the fields of broadcast journalism and professional photography/videography. The class is also supported by the high school’s Video Club, which helps to create feature stories such as the Homecoming Football Game Recap, Welcome Back Video and other assorted sporting event recaps.

“I am incredibly excited and thankful to have the opportunity to teach the Digital Media Productions class this year. I am in awe of the raw talent, creativity and dedication of the students in this class. They jumped right into this with very little experience and have far exceeded my expectations. Some of the projects they’ve created are out of this world. I really look forward to growing this program and expanding the opportunities for our students,” said Mr. Brandyn Miller, Palmerton Area Senior High School computer science teacher.
