Big Kids from the middle school read stories to the Littles at Durham Nockamixon Elementary

The halls of Durham Nockamixon Elementary School were filled with excitement and smiles as members of the Palisades Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) paid a special visit to spend time with younger learners. As part of this meaningful outreach, the middle school students traveled from classroom to classroom, bringing stories, creativity and a sense of connection with them.

In each classroom, the NJHS students read aloud to the elementary students, sharing stories that captured attention and sparked imagination. Following the read-alouds, they guided students through a hands-on craft activity, working side by side to create something special together. Laughter, curiosity and thoughtful conversations filled the rooms as the “big kids” took on the role of mentors and role models.

The visit was a memorable experience for everyone involved. Elementary students looked up to their middle school guests with excitement, while the NJHS members embraced the opportunity to lead, give back and build relationships within the school community. Moments like these highlight the power of connection across grade levels and the importance of service, kindness and leadership.

It was truly a special day — one that left lasting smiles on both the younger students and the middle school visitors, and a wonderful reminder of what makes the Palisades community so strong.
