New sports complex benefits district, community
A large turf field, batting cages, a weight room, exercise classrooms and an elevated track are all features of Schuylkill Haven Area School District’s new sports complex, open to district students and staff, and the public. According to an article in the Reading Eagle, the $5.5 million, 30,000-square-foot sports complex, represents a partnership between the district and Lehigh Valley Health Network, which will staff the building with athletic trainers, physicians and physical therapists and donate an annual equipment allowance, scholarships and sports medicine supplies over a 14-year contract.
School officials said in the article that the goal in creating the new facility is to promote student wellness in the face of the mental health crisis and to move the district forward.
