McDowell AP Government class acts out congressional session

Mrs. Lehman leads her AP U.S. Government students in an engaging lesson on the legislative branch and lawmaking process.
Mrs. Lehman’s AP U.S. Government students at McDowell recently took on the role of members of Congress, each representing an assigned U.S. district. Students drafted original pieces of legislation, presented them in committee and worked to move their bills to the full floor for debate. Participants engaged in spirited discussions — collaborating with their assigned political parties to promote both their district’s interests and their party’s platform. This lesson allowed students to step into the roles and minds of lawmakers while gaining a deeper understanding of how the United States’ legislative branch works.
