McAnnulty’s dramatic playroom

The Journey of a Highlander begins at McAnnulty Elementary School (MES). This year, the students and staff of MES are excited to unveil a space in our school where students can practice empathy, communication, creative/critical thinking skills, and become responsible collaborators, all while doing so in the way that research shows young students learn best: play.

McAnnulty’s dramatic playroom was created to be a safe space for students to use their imagination and creativity while learning and practicing valuable life skills. The dramatic playroom includes food trucks, kitchens, market, nursery, workbench, veterinarian/nurses station and puppet theater. Whether it is making small talk in line at the market or grabbing a slice of pizza and watching a puppet show, the dramatic playroom is helping students to build connections between the skills they learn in the classroom and the world around them.
