“StarLutz Coffee” baristas perked up the day

Recently, the fourth-grade ELA team at R. A. Lutz Elementary hosted a poetry slam in their classes. This celebration was the culminating activity to end the CKLA unit on poetry.

In preparing for the poetry slam, the students chose a poem from a wide variety or wrote an original poem to memorize. The students utilized time, both inside and outside of school, to practice presenting their poems. On Tuesday, the classrooms were set up to look like a local coffee shop, and light refreshments were served by the ELA teachers who were dressed as “StarLutz Coffee” baristas. The students stood in front of the class and recited their poems for all to hear. Each student used important skills such as public speaking, performing arts and active listening. Students and teachers alike were incredibly proud of the performances and truly enjoyed celebrating the end of the poetry unit.
