J.S. Wilson students get familiar with sailing during a history lesson at the Erie Maritime Museum & U.S. Brig Niagara.

Students from James S. Wilson Middle School visited the Erie Maritime Museum & U.S. Brig Niagara to wrap up the 3rd quarter of the school year. They learned about the War of 1812 and the role Erie, PA, played in it. Displays of unique artifacts from the war helped provide a deeper insight as to what tools were used and what life was like during that time. Museum staff provided interactive lessons to teach students some of the skills needed on the ships used in battles on Lake Erie. Students learned various knots used in sailing, how the sails work and more.
